In the wake of a week of constant streaming "breaking news," epitomized by this morning's intense coverage of the ongoing man-hunt in a suburb of Boston, this symbol of unexpected clarity jutted out against the cloud-laden sky and horizon of early-spring-bleak branches, announcing in white and black self-assured lettering a message of opalescent, dense insight.
In all its uncertainty, reality, and honesty, this week has been a doozy. Similar to the period of abundant chaos of spring 2011, we as a collective have reeled in the wake of man-made and accidental hurt inflicted on fellow humans.
Like the first-responders, public safety agencies, and the public of Boston and West, Texas, man-power and technology again rose to the occasion in D.C. to track down with remarkable speed the sender of those poison-laced letters addressed to the president and a congressman. Ultimately, as clips of Mr. Rogers (below) have recently reminded us, the bravery and selfless volunteerism of those near the disasters, and ethical use of resources, highlight and reaffirm: goodness survives disaster and destructive intent.
