Summer is for learning, too; only, you learn things you might not have expected to…
The last five or so minutes have been spent transporting water-laden “reds” from the new washing machine to the shining kitchen sink, which is twenty-, long, drippy feet away from the laundry/utility room. While twisting and contorting the sopping wet pink-and-orange striped socks, red t-shirts declaring “Ball State,” “Wabash Always Fights,” and “Garciaparra,” respectively, and a favorite yellow t-shirt with an Obelix and Asterix graphic, a sudden wonder and appreciation comes to mind as I think of the seemingly antiquated images in cartoons and episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies that showed the old-style crank –powered “ringer” used to remove excess water from clothes. So, now I know why they had that… Ohhh, so that’s what the spin cycle does… I say to myself, now comprehending that, though four options for “Spin Cycle” appear on the face of the washing machine, I shouldn't really ever choose “No Spin” just to shorten the hour spent in the HE machine. Ugh, but I'm learning!
Thank you washing machine and dryer for teaching me something new… And, it’s nice to realize that my Slice of Life Challenge piece about wanting a washer = "being a grown up" has come true :-).
