Tomorrow, we'll be starting the 2016 SOLC. And, it's a funny, uncertain sensation to see a two-year pause ending, and the process beginning again as though no time has passed at all. The dates below show I've sliced just once in the last two years, which I can, perhaps, attribute to my universe's center moving from myself to my daughter, and process of cutting a new path all way to the ever-new present. |
Two years ago yesterday, I was posting a Friday slice, getting ready for a weekend snow storm, reassuring Señora Selke, my class of 2015 co-sponsor, we'd be just fine running the concession stand three nights the following week when AMHS would be hosting the boys' sectional, and subconsciously looking forward to beginning the Slice of Life Challenge on Monday, 3/3, with my then-ninth-grade-Honors kids.
Well, life opens up like one of those time-lapse videos of flowers blooming and here we are today, and Olive turns two/"big" this Thursday, 3/3.
So, as we did this morning, hurrying to get out of the car at daycare so Olive could spy the school bus turning the corner, and carrying a dozen electric-tangerine and neon-red roses to school so I could see them bloom throughout the day, I'll carpe diem, carpe joy-um all this Slice of Life Challenge.
But, I'm thankful, even for the moments of writing and revising this one post, that this path has rejoined my writing life, which I know always helps me remember, savor, appreciate, and see.
