This week I feel immersed in a quilt of life. Awash in a sense of newness while savoring the anticipation of graduation, a friend's marriage, the wonderful changes brought by a birth are each sewn together along with another's frustrated confusion at his loved one's unmet potential and the awareness of a death that all is too near. Part of this is called up as I look with a tinge of the unknown and excitement at Saturday's literal ceremonies signaling transitions, accomplishments, declarations of who you are and what you value; as well, I am keenly alert that other haunting parts of this ever-blending kaleidoscope-quilt of colors and emotions reverberate for me now because of the emotions and memories of uncertainty and loss stirred up by talk of September 11th due to this week's early revelations. I am thankful for the pendulum's delicate beat that gives us time together. It is a thread, whose ceaseless motion and seemingly necessary piercing joins the best, worst, and the everyday together.
