Just as last Saturday had a delicious, bright moon on the drive home from being with friends and community, and Mediterranean food while all dolled-up with my best friend, this weekend will see the rejoining of a family together for a wedding just a month after the passing of the groom’s grandpa, and the convergence of more family and friends together on Mother’s Day to be together for my brother’s graduation from college. I am looking forward to having “my people” together and taking the photo of my mom and dad on either side of my little brother in his cap and gown. The wholeness that I can anticipate feels like home.
And I look forward to singing along to Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers” album on the drive up to Chicago with my husband who, in addition to knowing the perfect summer-simplicity of “tomato sandwiches,” also has a steel stitch to my past and present because we both claim that album as our individual "first CD" circa fifth grade.
Now, so long as J does not miss his flight or anything like that, we’ll all be together for commencement on Sunday. And Friday, another branch of my family, my husband’s large extended family, will be together in the suburbs of Chicago celebrating a wedding and dancing and remembering and living.
