Remember, you may also complete your Slice of Life on Schoology.com. a memory triggered W hen I read "wide front lawn, where sprinklers flung graceful sprays in the air and created rainbows that looked small enough to put in your pocket," in my book, Stephen King's "11/22/63," I was transported back to the side yard of Baka's house and the "walking sprinker" - with its prickly spray and the damp, green hose leaving snaking lines on the sidewalk squares - as a pastel blue sky, the same color of bodies of water on a map, is above. And I knew a contentment, a whole happiness in the black, wrought iron railing of the astroturfed porch. On a swing with brown, flowered cushions and a faded mauve wool blanket, I napped, ate popsicles shaped like Mickey and Goofy, and had Baka's company. And as my twenty-seven year old mind looked back more than twenty years, I wondered, for the first time, just how at creeping, ambling, spitting iron and aluminum "robot" walked and watered so usefully around the yard of fertilized kelly green grass and smiling daisies and electric-orange poppies with mascara-ed centers and tended rose bushes and bleeding hearts I'd dissect and sprinkle on the sidewalk. And, I didn't even think of it 'til now, when third hour had melted away in responding to and sharing slices and a bit of talk about "Our Town": How appropriate it is that we took this time to hear each other and know what we are each going through, because this is our life - our Slice of Life - and "Our Town" is all about their lives in Grover's Corners and what is most important :-).
