Feeling happy. Snuggled on the couch; it’s still light outside, and I hear an array of bird songs, dogs barking, motors accelerating, the skittering of a single leaf against the blacktop three floors down. A siren sings in the distance; its calling gets louder. And I am at home. My husband who has been brave at the dentist today is visible through two diagonal doorways through the house, and the card I made for him for being brave at the dentist sits beside a pile of bananas on the kitchen table; it reads, "For you... wif da bahwoken teef." Tonight for dinner I had smoked salmon with red onion atop spinach and a smear of whipped cream cheese on a bagel thin. And that tickles me a bit because it reminds me of a busy, contented 6:30a.m. morning breakfast with Mom at Le Peep; it was the morning of our first chair raffle at the farmers market to benefit the 3-Day. Fulfilling memories and happy now.
